Description
Created in 2007, the Arizona Game & Fish Department’s Local Sportsmen’s Group Grant Program helps local groups promote wildlife conservation by recruiting, retaining and reactivating hunters, anglers, shooters and trappers. It uses an annual competitive application process and is funded through hunting and fishing license, permit-tag and stamp sales.
The FY2027 funding focus was hunter and angler recruitment and development through progressive skills programs. Priority went to public, mentored hunting and fishing experiences involving the pursuit or harvest of fish or wildlife, with participants matched to the experience and skills an event requires. The department also emphasizes continued engagement that helps participants progress toward independent participation. The focus for a future cycle may change.
