Description
The Local Waterfront Revitalization Program (LWRP) is New York State’s primary partnership with waterfront communities, administered by the Department of State’s Office of Planning, Development and Community Infrastructure. It supports coastal and inland waterfront planning and implementation, with goals including improved water quality, protection of natural areas, public waterfront access, and redevelopment of underutilized waterfronts. The program guides development toward areas with adequate infrastructure and services and away from sensitive resources.
An LWRP combines a community’s long-term vision for land and water uses with local laws, management structures, and prioritized projects. Competitive funding supports preparation and implementation of these programs. Community resilience is integrated into planning, including approaches to flooding, erosion, sea-level rise, and other climate-related risks.
