    Description

The London Mathematical Society’s Scheme 5 supports visits for collaborative mathematical research involving developing countries where mathematics is in a disadvantaged position. A grant holder may visit an eligible country or host a named mathematician from that country at their home base. The scheme uses the International Mathematical Union Commission for Developing Countries’ definition of developing countries, and applicants must explain why their selected country qualifies.

The intended benefit is to the country concerned, through collaborative research or other academic activities. Support contributes to the practical costs of sustained visits rather than conference attendance alone. Visits are expected to last at least 14 days. When a conference forms part of the trip, the visit must include 14 additional days of qualifying academic activity, and conference-period expenses cannot be funded.
