Summary: Partial travel support for UK-based early-career mathematicians attending conferences or undertaking research visits in the UK or overseas.
Key Information: Applicants must be PhD/research students or within three years of completing their PhD, excluding academic career breaks; Master's students are ineligible.
The London Mathematical Society (LMS) provides partial travel and accommodation support for early-career researchers in mathematics to attend conferences or undertake research visits in the UK or overseas. The scheme supports trips that benefit the applicant’s mathematical research, rather than providing a general travel allowance. UK-based mathematicians invited to the Heidelberg Laureate Forum should also apply through this scheme.
The Society’s Early Career Research Committee assesses applications, giving priority to research visits combined with conference attendance. Long-distance trips of short duration are less likely to receive funding, and researchers who have already had multiple travel or conference opportunities in a short period are not prioritised. Each award is tied to the specific conference or research visit described in the application.
