Joint Research Groups in the UK - Scheme 3 supports mathematicians with shared research interests, funding regular meetings to exchange ideas, follow developments and build research networks.
Funder: London Mathematical Society
Due Dates (Anticipated): September 2027 (Application deadline)
Funding Amounts: Up to £2,400 for meetings over one year
Summary: Supports regular meetings of mathematical research groups collaborating across at least three locations.
Key Information: PhD students cannot apply; groups need collaborators from at least three institutions, including two in the UK, Isle of Man or Channel Islands.
The London Mathematical Society’s Joint Research Groups scheme supports groups of mathematicians with a common research interest to collaborate through regular meetings. It enables researchers working in different locations to exchange ideas, hear about developments in their field and build research networks. All participating institutions should be genuinely involved, with meetings normally rotating between them.
The scheme supports mathematical activities, or the mathematical component of wider activities, rather than mathematics education. Meetings are expected to be open to all and advertised to research students and young postdoctoral mathematicians, with every effort made to encourage their participation. Funding can support in-person, online and hybrid activities, including practical meeting expenses and resources for remote participation.
