Key Information: Applicants must be based in the UK, Isle of Man or Channel Islands when the research takes place; non-members need an LMS member’s support.

    Description

The London Mathematical Society’s Research Reboot Scheme, part of Scheme 4, helps mathematicians restart research when caring responsibilities or professional demands have prevented sustained attention to it. It funds a short period devoted entirely to a specific mathematical project, rather than contributing to the general cost of a sabbatical visit. Supported expenses include travel, accommodation, subsistence and caring costs.

Retreats last from two complete working days to one working week. Applicants are generally expected to leave their usual home or departmental environment so that research time can be protected from everyday demands. Supported activities have included exploring research problems, completing a research proposal, proving a conjecture about matrix-channel capacity, and producing a co-authored paper on financial sustainability.
