LMS Travel Grants to ICMs and ECMs support UK-based mathematicians, especially early career researchers, with travel costs to enable participation in international and European mathematics congresses.
Funder: London Mathematical Society
Due Dates (Anticipated): October 2029 (Early career, Round 1) | November 2029 (Established mathematicians) | February 2030 (Early career, Round 2)
Funding Amounts: Up to £500 for ICM 2026 early career grants; support contributes to attendance costs
Summary: Travel grants support UK-based mathematicians attending International Congresses of Mathematicians and European Congresses of Mathematics, with particular emphasis on early career researchers.
Key Information: ICM travel grants exclude satellite meetings and congress registration fees.
The London Mathematical Society (LMS) sets aside funds to help UK-based mathematicians attend the International Congress of Mathematicians (ICM) and the European Congresses of Mathematics (ECM), each held every four years. The Society particularly encourages participation by mathematicians at an early stage of their careers, including postdoctoral researchers. Grants contribute to congress attendance costs rather than covering them in full.
The ICM 2026 programme offered separate strands for early career researchers and established mid- to late-career mathematicians. UK-based PhD students could also apply through the early career strand where attendance would benefit their research and their supervisor provided strong mathematical support. The programme also provides for travel grants to attend the 10th ECM in 2028.
