    Description

The Louis Janus Book Subvention Award is administered by the Society for the Advancement of Scandinavian Study (SASS) to encourage publication of research monographs in Nordic studies. It assists publishers with production costs and also considers English translations of significant scholarship and works of literature originally published in a Nordic language. The award is named for Louis Janus (1948–2024), a longtime University of Minnesota, Twin Cities, professor and active supporter of SASS.

The program combines support for book publication with recognition of scholarly merit and service to the society. Applications are assessed on the merit of the proposal and the applicant’s record of substantive service to SASS. Edited article collections are not eligible.
