Description
The Kentucky Department for Libraries & Archives (KDLA) administers the Local Records Program Grant to help local government offices improve the management and preservation of public records. Created in 1984, the program supports security microfilming, digitization and indexing of born-analog records, conservation and restoration, archival supplies and equipment, records arrangement and description, establishment of records management programs or archives, and codification of local ordinances and related actions.
The program prioritizes critical records problems, older records, and chronologically complete collections. Selection also considers geographic distribution, representation of different government types and sizes, professional archival standards, secure storage, lawful custody, and public access. Limited, time-defined projects involving records with shorter retention periods may qualify when they maintain usability and accessibility throughout the required retention period.
