Description
The American Council of Learned Societies (ACLS), with support from the Henry Luce Foundation, runs this program to help collaborative teams design and implement innovative pilot initiatives in China studies. Developed through consultation with scholars and other stakeholders, the program seeks scalable, sustainable outcomes that strengthen the field’s scholarly infrastructure. Potential outputs include graduate training pilots, open access digital platforms, cross-institutional partnerships, and open educational resources.
Priorities include engagement with policymakers and civil society, diversified teaching and curricular resources, open access collections, language training, and research training that addresses methodological gaps. ACLS particularly welcomes international and inter-institutional partnerships, support for under-resourced institutions, and initiatives strengthening the next generation of China scholars. Innovative proposals addressing other pressing needs are also considered.
