Key Information: Residency at the Institute in Jerusalem is mandatory, with no exceptions.
The Lydie T. Shufro Summer Research Fellowship supports one month of humanities and social science research at the W.F. Albright Institute of Archaeological Research (AIAR) in Jerusalem. Eligible research addresses cultural development in the southern Levant from deep prehistory through the Early Modern period. Related disciplines, including museum studies and cultural heritage management, are also considered.
The fellowship is part of AIAR’s annual Fellows program, which brings US, Israeli, Palestinian, and other international scholars together in pursuit of research excellence. Fellows join the Institute’s academic community through public lectures, field trips, and other events. The program emphasizes responsible engagement with cultural materials and sets specific expectations concerning provenance, ownership histories, and archaeological excavations in occupied territories.
