    Description

MacDowell provides artists with time, space, and an inspiring residential environment to develop enduring works of the imagination. Its fellowship program supports architecture, film/video, interdisciplinary arts, literature, music composition, theatre, and visual arts on its wooded campus in Peterborough, New Hampshire. Emerging and established artists from all countries are welcome, including collaborators and established collectives.

Approximately 300 artists receive fellowships each year. Artistic excellence is the sole selection criterion, defined inclusively across a broad range of practices, perspectives, and inquiries. The residency is intended for independent work rather than instruction, providing a private studio, accommodations, and three prepared meals daily. Need-based financial assistance helps artists who otherwise could not afford time away from their usual responsibilities.
