Description
Macular Degeneration Research, a BrightFocus Foundation program, supports U.S. and international scientists pursuing pioneering research on age-related macular degeneration (AMD). It funds basic, translational, and clinically oriented studies addressing disease causes, prevention, and treatment. BrightFocus emphasizes high-risk, innovative experimental ideas, including interdisciplinary work, intended to generate findings that can attract subsequent governmental or industrial support.
Three award mechanisms support postdoctoral training, early independent research careers, and established investigators pursuing substantially new directions. BrightFocus prefers projects for which substantial resources do not already exist or which are not already competitive for governmental or industrial support. The program encourages applications from scientists from diverse backgrounds, particularly groups underrepresented in AMD research.
