Description
The Maine Artist Fellowship, administered by the Maine Arts Commission, recognizes artistic excellence across a Maine artist’s overall career. These are merit-based awards rather than grants for specific projects. Reviewers assess artistic creativity and vision demonstrated throughout the application. One artist is selected in each of six disciplines: Fine Craft, Literary Arts, Media Arts and Photography, Performing Arts, Traditional Arts, and Visual Arts.
Fellows receive unrestricted financial support to advance their careers at their discretion, alongside public visibility and opportunities to connect with other artists. The Traditional Arts fellowship specifically honors sustained commitment to keeping traditional art forms alive, emphasizing connections to place, local practices, communities, and cultural heritage, including traditions maintained by established populations and new immigrant artists.
