The Maine Space Grant Consortium’s Research Seed Grant Program supports emerging researchers and established researchers developing new research directions. It provides short-term, one-time support to jump-start projects that generate data or work products for major proposals to NASA and other external funding agencies. Projects must be interdisciplinary and align with NASA’s research and development priorities and topic areas critical to the Maine Space Complex.
A central aim is to build collaborations between Maine researchers and NASA Field Centers while strengthening research in Maine’s technology sectors. Supported activities include preliminary research, visits to NASA Field Centers to initiate collaborations, student support, and discipline-specific networking workshops. The program values scientific merit, cross-disciplinary partnerships, student access, potential for external funding, and viable plans to sustain the work.
