Description
Virginia Humanities, Virginia’s state humanities council, awards Major Grants to cultural nonprofits and other eligible organizations developing public-facing humanities projects. The program supports initiatives with broader scope and sustained impact that foster dialogue, interpret cultural resources, and expand access to history, literature, and culture.
Supported formats include community forums, book and film discussions, community histories and oral histories, public conferences, exhibitions, festivals, interpretive performances, lectures, and publications. Funding also supports K–12 curriculum resources, teacher institutes, professional development, and media such as documentaries, radio, podcasts, and websites. Project planning and research leading to public programming are eligible. Arts-related projects should interpret the history or meaning of art rather than primarily produce artwork.
