Newly added guidance requires anyone moving or arranging manure transfers from animal operations to eligible receiving operations to complete a Broker Agreement with the Maryland Department of Agriculture before applying for manure transport grants. Description
The Maryland Department of Agriculture’s Manure Transport Program helps cover hauling costs to relocate manure to farms with low-phosphorus fields or alternative use facilities. It supports poultry litter and liquid or solid dairy and livestock manure, directing nutrients to destinations where they can be used for agricultural crops or approved alternative uses.
Standard and “Haul Now, Apply Later” FastTrack options connect transport assistance with nutrient management planning and receiving-field phosphorus levels. Related manure injection grants help farmers place liquid manure below the soil surface to reduce nutrient runoff and odors while preserving beneficial surface residue. The program is administered through MDA’s Conservation Grants office, with local soil conservation districts assisting applicants.
