Description
EMBO runs these fellowships to support science journalism through scientific education and practical newsroom training. Science journalists can undertake funded sabbaticals at one or more research institutions to deepen and broaden their knowledge of the life sciences and associated disciplines. Life scientists seeking a full-time career transition can undertake placements in one or more media newsrooms to learn journalism, develop their practice and build a portfolio of work.
The scheme focuses on learning and long-term professional development rather than short-term content production. Journalist placements should develop understanding of research, research processes or relevant technologies. Researcher placements take the form of full-time internships or similar training in mainstream media newsrooms, with fellows expected to produce published or broadcast science journalism.
