Description
The North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality’s Division of Coastal Management administers this program with funding from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. Established under the federal Clean Vessel Act of 1992, it helps boat-docking facilities make proper sewage disposal readily available to recreational boaters and reduce sewage discharge into coastal waters.
Grants support construction and renovation of pumpout and dump stations, including planning, engineering, and necessary connections to a marina sewage system. Storm-damaged stations may also be repaired or replaced. The program prioritizes expanded service in the Albemarle-Pamlico region and locations where boating activity or sensitive waters make sewage disposal especially important.
