    Description

The Mary Isabel Sibley Fellowship, administered by The Phi Beta Kappa Society, supports women in the early stages of their research careers. Awarded annually, it alternates between Greek and French studies. Greek studies may include culture, language, literature, history, and archaeology; French studies focus on language or literature. The 2027 fellowship is for French studies, and the 2028 fellowship is for Greek studies.

Established in 1934 by Isabelle Stone in honor of her mother, the fellowship was designed to give women pursuing graduate work the experience of researching and living abroad. It continues Stone’s vision of passing on the opportunities for scholarship she found during her own year of study in Greece. The fellowship supports a year of research, with the hope that its results will be published in some form.
