Funder: Society for Classical Studies
Due Dates: October 31, 2026 (Deadline)
Summary: Recognizes outstanding projects or events that make classical antiquity accessible and appealing to audiences beyond Classics scholars and students in their courses.
Key Information: The project or event must be the work of an SCS member or members.
The Mary-Kay Gamel Outreach Prize is offered by the Society for Classical Studies (SCS) to recognize outstanding public-facing projects or events involving classical antiquity. Its focus is outreach beyond the scholarly and classroom audiences that ordinarily engage with Classics: the work must reach an audience other than Classics scholars or students in their courses.
The prize’s purpose combines access with appeal. Recognized work should make an aspect of classical antiquity both available and attractive to the audience it reaches. Both projects and events fall within its scope. This is a prize recognizing outreach work, rather than a separate research funding program.
