Maryland Industrial Partnerships (MIPS) supports collaborative research and development that pairs companies with faculty at 14 Maryland institutions. Run by the Idea Factory and administered at the University of Maryland, College Park through the A. James Clark School of Engineering, the program supports work in engineering, computer science, physical sciences, and life sciences. Projects must address commercialization intentions and potential benefits to the company, Maryland, and the university.
MIPS and the company jointly fund the university’s research, while the company pays for its own project activities. The program connects companies with faculty expertise, students, laboratories, and equipment to develop technology products and processes. Proposals are assessed for technical merit and their economic case, including the total cost to MIPS.
