The Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE), through its Office for Food and Nutrition Programs, administers this competitive, USDA-funded equipment grant for School Food Authorities. It supports healthier meals meeting updated meal patterns, with emphasis on more fruits and vegetables, less processed food, improved food safety, and expanded access. The program also supports establishing, maintaining, or expanding the National School Lunch and School Breakfast Programs.
Funding supports equipment used to implement the National School Lunch Program at individual schools. Examples include equipment for heating, cooking, holding, serving, and refrigerating food. Requests may cover new equipment, renovation or replacement of equipment, and associated delivery and installation costs. Applications are school/site-based, with awards made through districts.
