Funding Amounts: Stipend approximately $82,764 per year plus $3,000 travel allowance; typical appointment duration 2 years.
Summary: Postdoctoral fellowship to develop machine learning and AI methods for synchrotron radiation experiments at NIST’s Beamline for Materials Measurement, located at Brookhaven National Laboratory.
Key Information: Open to U.S. citizens with a Ph.D.; requires prior experience in X-ray Absorption Spectroscopy and AI/ML; programming skills in Python preferred; involves occasional travel to Gaithersburg, MD.
This postdoctoral research opportunity supports the development of machine learning (ML) and artificial intelligence (AI) methods to enhance synchrotron radiation experimentation. The research will primarily focus on operations at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Beamline for Materials Measurement at the National Synchrotron Light Source II (NSLS-II), located at Brookhaven National Laboratory in Upton, NY. The position involves planning and performing high-throughput X-ray Absorption Spectroscopy (XAS), X-ray Fluorescence (XRF), and X-ray Diffraction (XRD) measurements, with the goal of leveraging AI/ML tools to automate and improve beamline operations.
Key responsibilities include:
The position requires a strong background in X-ray Absorption Spectroscopy and experience with machine learning and artificial intelligence techniques. Familiarity with X-ray Diffraction, Pair Distribution Function analysis, and data acquisition using the Bluesky experiment orchestration package is highly desirable. Programming skills, especially in Python, are essential.
