Key Information: Mathematicians worldwide may apply, but PhD students are ineligible and activities must take place in Africa.
The London Mathematical Society’s Mathematics in Africa scheme provides partial financial support for mathematical activities taking place within Africa. It supports attendance at mathematical conferences and workshops, the organisation of these events, and mathematical research collaborations, including research visits. Mathematicians based anywhere in the world may apply, provided the proposed activity takes place in Africa.
The scheme can contribute to travel, accommodation and subsistence, including visa expenses and caring costs for attendees with dependents. The Society encourages support for underrepresented groups in mathematics and directs conference and workshop organisers to its advice on speaker diversity. Potential applicants who are uncertain whether their activity fits the scheme can discuss their proposal with the Grants Administrator and the Research Grants Committee Chair.
