--- ## Description This opportunity provides support for individual investigators through a single grant, allowing them to pursue research within the scientific mission of the National Institute of General Medical Sciences (NIGMS). The program aims to: - Increase funding stability for NIGMS-supported investigators, - Enhance flexibility to pursue new research directions, - Broaden the distribution of funding among talented investigators, - Reduce administrative and application burdens, - Enable more time for mentoring junior scientists. Applications are invited from eligible NIGMS-funded investigators and new investigators proposing research aligned with the NIGMS mission. Renewal applications are also accepted from current MIRA grantees (excluding current Early-Stage Investigators, who should apply through the ESI MIRA NOFO). --- ## Due Dates - May 26, 2028 (Application deadline) --- ## Funding Amount - Award size and duration are determined by the scope of the proposed research and NIGMS guidelines. - The program provides a single grant mechanism intended to support the investigator’s entire research program within the NIGMS mission. --- ## Eligibility - Eligible applicants include: - State, county, city, or township governments - Special district governments - Independent school districts - Public and State controlled institutions of higher education - Federally recognized Native American tribal governments - Public housing authorities/Indian housing authorities - Native American tribal organizations (other than federally recognized tribal governments) - Nonprofits (with or without 501(c)(3) status, excluding institutions of higher education) - Private institutions of higher education - For-profit organizations (including small businesses) - Others as defined in the NOFO **Key eligibility constraints:** - Non-domestic (non-U.S.) entities are **not eligible** to apply. - Non-domestic (non-U.S.) components of U.S. organizations are **not eligible**. - **Foreign subawards/subcontracts are not allowed.** Applications with foreign subawards/subcontracts will be deemed noncompliant. - Foreign components, funding for foreign consultants, or procurement of unique equipment/supplies from foreign vendors may be allowed under certain conditions. - Current Early-Stage Investigators (ESIs) must apply through the ESI MIRA NOFO. --- ## Application Process - Applications must be submitted via [Grants.gov](https://www.grants.gov/search-results-detail/359862). - Refer to Section III.
