Established in 1984, the Florida Education Fund’s McKnight Doctoral Fellowship Program supports doctoral study to address the underrepresentation of African American and Hispanic faculty at Florida colleges and universities. It aims to increase the pool of Ph.D.-qualified citizens prepared to teach at the college and university levels, with expanded industry employment opportunities as a secondary benefit.
Eligible fields include the arts and sciences, business, engineering, health sciences, nursing, and visual and performing arts. The program especially encourages agriculture, biology, business, chemistry, computer science, engineering, marine biology, mathematics, physics, and psychology. Alongside financial support, fellows receive counseling, editorial assistance, and professional development designed to support doctoral completion and preparation for professional careers.
