Hawai‘i Community Foundation’s annual Medical Research program supports basic and clinical research conducted in Hawai‘i. Its goal is a robust local medical research community that benefits the people of Hawai‘i. Research areas are determined by contributing funds and include aging-related diseases, cancer, heart and lung disease, immunology, genetics, medicinal uses of Hawaiian plants, vision health, type I diabetes, and general medical research.
The program also supports novel, sustainable research infrastructure that advances biomedical research in Hawai‘i. Infrastructure proposals may address organizational change, research collections and database systems, or inter-organizational collaboration supporting interdisciplinary research questions. This category is not intended to fund a specific research project or equipment purchases for a project or department.
