Description
The Neurosurgery Research & Education Foundation (NREF), the philanthropic arm of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons (AANS), has offered Medical Student Summer Research Fellowships annually since 2008. The program invests in the future of neurosurgery by supporting medical students whose projects advance the understanding, treatment, and prevention of neurological disorders and improve patient care.
Fellows spend dedicated summer research time working in a neurosurgical laboratory with a neurosurgical investigator sponsor. Research must relate to neurosurgery, but the topic may fall outside the student's current medical school program if the student plans to continue medical school. The fellowship combines research experience with mentorship for the next generation of neurosurgeons.
