Description
The Medieval Academy of America’s dissertation grants support advanced graduate students writing Ph.D. dissertations on medieval topics. The program reflects the Academy’s wide-ranging disciplinary interests, helping researchers meet expenses associated with research collections and research materials. It was established to commemorate the Academy’s seventy-fifth anniversary and honors scholars whose teaching and scholarship contributed to its development.
Previously supported dissertations span music, vernacular languages, multilingual manuscript culture, Hebrew manuscripts and Jewish displacement, Islamic law, crusading ideology, and political authority. Other projects examine religious practice, art, literature, economic connections, medicine, and community identity across Europe, the Mediterranean, Africa, and the Indian Ocean world.
