Summary: Supports development and validation of clinically useful biomarkers for diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment selection in myasthenia gravis and related neuromuscular junction disorders.
Key Information: U.S. and international principal investigators must have confirmed faculty status; for-profit and small-business submissions are ineligible.
The Myasthenia Gravis Foundation of America (MGFA) supports research identifying, developing, and validating clinically useful diagnostic and prognostic biomarkers for myasthenia gravis (MG) and related neuromuscular junction disorders. The program seeks objective tools that reveal underlying pathophysiology, inform clinical care and prognosis, and predict which patients will respond to particular therapeutic classes.
Supported work includes biomarker identification across MG subtypes, evaluation of autoantibody and immune-pathway markers, treatment-response prediction, and translation of assays into clinical tools. Replication studies, standardized assays, multimodal approaches, and biologically grounded clinical-trial endpoints are also within scope. Proposals should align with MGFA’s research agenda. A particular priority is accessible, scalable tools usable outside highly specialized centers, including validation accelerated through existing multicenter biorepositories.
