The Myasthenia Gravis Foundation of America (MGFA) supports research addressing unmet needs in pediatric and adolescent myasthenia gravis (MG). Most pivotal MG therapy trials enrolled few or no children, leaving pediatric treatment largely extrapolated from adult data. Functional measures such as MG-ADL and QMG have also not been formally validated in pediatric populations. The program aims to strengthen evidence for pediatric treatment strategies, safety, and long-term outcomes.
Supported work spans diagnosis and disease characterization, treatment safety and pharmacology, outcome measures and trial readiness, natural history, immunomechanisms, and psychosocial impact. Examples include differentiating juvenile MG from congenital myasthenic syndromes, pediatric dosing and comparative treatment strategies, age-appropriate endpoints, predictors of remission, transition to adult care, and interventions addressing education, development, family functioning, or mental health. Proposals should align with the MGFA research agenda.
