    Description

The Michele Panuccio Memorial Grant is administered by the Raptor Research Foundation to support field research on raptor migration and conservation in the European region. Established by Panuccio’s parents in 2021, the fund honors the Italian ornithologist and ecologist whose research centered on migration monitoring, particularly along the Italian-Tunisian flyway and across the Mediterranean.

The grant reflects Panuccio’s commitment to rigorous field observation and the scientific study of birds of prey. His work included research on Greek Short-toed Snake Eagle migration strategies and standardized monitoring at the Strait of Messina using visual observation and radar. The program supports young researchers and helps disseminate funded findings through waived publication page charges in the Journal of Raptor Research.
