The Microbiology Society’s Outreach and Engagement Grant supports members developing science outreach and public engagement initiatives that introduce new audiences to any aspect of microbiology. The scheme encourages innovative, interactive activities that explain scientific concepts and current research, inspire interest in microbiology’s advances, and create dialogue about its wider impact on society.
Supported activities can include science, art or music festivals, talks and workshops, and school or college science-week activities. Examples include laboratory visits, talks by microbiologists working in different fields, and student resources with potential for national or international rollout. The Society welcomes activities involving international members and participants from industry or infection science. In 2027, New England Biolabs will fund one additional award specifically for members of Black or Mixed Black heritage, supporting diversity and representation across the research community.
