The Angelina Messina Grant is an annual scheme run by The Micropalaeontological Society (TMS) for student members and early career researchers. It supports fieldwork, conference attendance, or another specific research-related activity that has not been budgeted for. The activity must be relevant to micropalaeontology and benefit the applicant’s scientific career or the development of their research project.
From 2024, TMS is trialling a priority lottery approach because demand exceeds the number of grants it can fund. The approach aims to make consideration of fundable applications fairer, reduce administrative burden, and increase the diversity of awardees. Applications are first assessed against expected standards, including scientific relevance, benefit to the applicant, financial need, and a realistic budget.
