The Clinical Innovation Fund, administered by Mid-America Transplant Foundation, supports research addressing critical clinical issues in organ and tissue transplantation. Since 2016, the fund has backed projects intended to improve donation and transplantation outcomes while honoring the gifts of donors and their families. Its goals include reducing the need for transplantation, increasing the availability of organs and tissues, and improving health and financial outcomes for transplant recipients.
The program seeks innovative solutions with measurable impact. Research interests include patient-oriented research, outcomes research, and health services studies. Special consideration goes to projects that increase organ utilization through deceased donor management, Donation after Circulatory Death (DCD), lower kidney discard rates, and greater use of marginal or extended criteria organs. Bioengineering and regenerative medicine applications with potential to significantly affect transplantation are strongly encouraged.
