Description
The NIH K24 award provides protected time for midcareer health-professional doctorates to strengthen their patient-oriented research (POR) programs and mentor junior clinical investigators, including clinical residents, fellows, junior faculty, and K23 recipients. It is intended for established independent investigators, typically at the Associate Professor level or equivalent, with peer-reviewed research funding and a record of mentoring.
This opportunity, PA-24-187, specifically supports candidates leading an independent clinical trial, clinical trial feasibility study, or separate ancillary clinical trial. POR includes research on human disease mechanisms, therapeutic interventions, clinical trials, and new technologies involving direct interaction with human subjects. In vitro studies without direct patient involvement and Exemption 4 studies are excluded. Projects must align with a participating NIH Institute or Center’s mission.
