    Description

This NIH opportunity provides mid-career clinician-scientists with protected time to conduct patient-oriented research (POR) and to mentor junior clinical investigators, such as clinical residents, fellows, and junior faculty. The award is specifically for those proposing to lead an independent clinical trial, feasibility study, or ancillary study as part of their research and career development. The program aims to enhance the research and mentoring capabilities of established investigators, ensuring a robust pipeline of future clinical researchers.

Patient-oriented research is defined as research conducted with human subjects (or on material of human origin) where the investigator directly interacts with human subjects. This includes studies on disease mechanisms, therapeutic interventions, clinical trials, and the development of new technologies.
