Description
The Archaeological Institute of America (AIA) offers this fellowship to support archaeological research and fieldwork on the African continent by graduate students and postdoctoral fellows. It supports both active research and planned investigations by applicants affiliated with accredited graduate-level or postdoctoral programs in archaeology or a related discipline. The fellowship contributes to the Institute’s broader work advancing archaeological awareness, education, fieldwork, preservation, publication, and research.
Sharing results is an important part of the award. Recipients report their accomplishments to the AIA and provide an illustrated summary suitable for a general audience and publication on its website. They are also expected to submit research for consideration at the AIA Annual Meeting. For projects generating digital data, publication of the dataset—ideally open access—is especially encouraged.
