Description
The Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) administers Safe Routes to School Mini Grants for schools, PTAs, and community groups encouraging safe walking, biking, and rolling to school. Grants support locally tailored events, supplies, and projects, including school travel celebrations, bike rodeos, and painted intersection murals. Past projects include t-shirts and food for Denny Middle School’s Ruby Bridges Walk to School Day and a Daniel Bagley Elementary bike rodeo during Bike to School Month.
Mini Grants complement SDOT’s Walking and Biking Packages by funding items those packages do not include. Title I schools can also use grants for outdoor clothing that supports walking and biking to school, including winter coats, rain jackets, boots, hats, gloves, and umbrellas. Bicycles are not funded through either Mini Grants or supply packages.
