The Eliminating Health Disparities Initiative (EHDI), administered by the Minnesota Department of Health’s Health Equity Strategy and Innovation Division, funds projects to improve the health of populations experiencing disparities. Established by the Minnesota Legislature in 2001, the program primarily addresses disparities experienced by populations of color and American Indians, emphasizing community self-determination, cultural knowledge, and community strengths.
Projects may use community-developed promising strategies, research-based strategies, or both. Evidence-based practices are not required, and promising and research-based strategies receive equal weight based on potential value and measurable outcomes. Work may focus on health promotion and direct service, organizational or institutional changes addressing social needs, or root causes of inequities. All levels receive equal consideration; pursuing multiple levels does not confer priority.
