The Minnesota Department of Health’s Office of Rural Health and Primary Care (ORHPC) administers this grant to develop new or expand existing pediatric mental health training programs in outpatient primary care clinics. Authorized by Minnesota Statutes section 144.1509, the program aims to increase providers’ confidence, clinical skills, and awareness of mental health resources so pediatric patients receive more effective, timely, longitudinal care.
Training focuses on pediatric primary care providers working with multidisciplinary mental health teams. It includes comprehensive clinical mental health assessments, potential pharmacological therapy, and psychiatric consultation during outpatient pediatric primary care experiences. Programs must emphasize ongoing care for patients with behavioral health needs and develop partnerships with community resources.
