Description
The Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry (DLI) supports the design, development, and registration of new occupations within Registered Teacher Apprenticeship Programs (RTAPs). Institutions work with DLI’s Apprenticeship Division and the Minnesota Professional Educator Licensing and Standards Board (PELSB) to develop structured on-the-job learning, mentorship, integrated education, credentialing, progressive wages, quality monitoring, sustainable funding, and compliance components.
The program aims to establish high-quality, cost-effective, scalable occupations responsive to Minnesota’s workforce and educational needs. It expands career pathways and licensure opportunities in K–12 education, including pathways for individuals who have historically faced employment barriers. The work serves RTAP sponsors, participating school districts, and prospective apprentices. Funding comes entirely from a U.S. Department of Labor/Employment and Training Administration State Apprenticeship Expansion Formula Grant.
