Description
The Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) administers Minnesota’s National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) Program, part of the federal NEVI Formula Program. It funds direct current fast charging infrastructure to support a convenient, affordable, reliable, and equitable electric vehicle charging network. Minnesota’s initial deployment focused on designated Alternative Fuel Corridors along I-94, I-90, and I-35.
Round 3A continues the state’s work to support long-distance electric vehicle travel, with proposed charging stations limited to designated eligible clusters. The broader federal program requires states to complete their Alternative Fuel Corridor networks before using remaining funds on other roadways. Federal approval of Minnesota’s fully built out corridor certification allows MnDOT to pursue that next stage. Planning is informed by the state’s Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Plan, infrastructure needs assessment, and long-distance charging analysis.
