Description
Mayo Clinic’s Molecular Genetic Pathology Fellowship provides one or two years of clinical training and research at its Rochester, Minnesota, campus. Based in the Genomics Laboratory within the Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology, the program develops expertise in DNA testing for inherited diseases, oncology, and hematology. Fellows can undertake optional training in other clinical laboratories using molecular diagnostics, with a flexible allocation of time between clinical applications and research.
The program prepares laboratory genetics and genomics consultants to apply genetic testing platforms to patient care. Training combines hands-on casework, test interpretation, assay development, formal teaching, and mentorship. Research activities focus on improving testing strategies and introducing new genetic tests, with attention to methodology and clinical utility. Two positions are available competitively each year.
