Description
The Wildlife Conservation Board administers this program to recover and sustain populations of monarch butterflies and other pollinators. It supports restoration or enhancement of California prairie and other appropriate breeding habitat, as well as monarch overwintering habitat, on private and public lands. Grants may also support seasonal or temporary habitat improvements.
The program can provide technical assistance to grant recipients, including farmers and ranchers, on habitat restoration and enhancement. It can also make block grants whose recipients allocate funds to individual projects with board approval. The board develops project selection and evaluation guidelines in coordination with the Department of Food and Agriculture.
