Description
California Sea Grant and the California Ocean Protection Council (OPC) support applied research that strengthens California’s ability to detect and understand ecological change in the California Current Large Marine Ecosystem. The program seeks baseline information useful for existing ocean and species management and future offshore development, including ocean energy.
Two complementary tracks support synthesis of existing monitoring data and targeted new field collection. Priorities cover marine mammals, sea turtles, seabirds, fish, and invertebrates in the Humboldt and Morro Bay wind energy areas, adjacent waters, Humboldt Bay, and demonstrably connected nearshore and state waters. Coordinated work that builds on existing programs and produces lasting management value is prioritized. Larger geographic scopes, including statewide projects, may be considered where appropriate.
