--- ## Description The Mosaic Scholarship provides financial and mentoring support to students of color who are pursuing graduate education in archival science. Established by the Society of American Archivists (SAA) in 2008, the scholarship aims to encourage students to enter the archives profession and to promote greater diversity within the field. Recipients are selected based on their academic and personal achievement, as well as their demonstrated commitment to both the archives profession and the advancement of diversity concerns. --- ## Due Dates - Application deadline (anticipated/projected): February 2027 *All dates are projected based on the annual cycle; check the program page for updates.* --- ## Funding Amount - Up to two scholarships awarded annually - Each scholarship is $5,000 - Recipients also receive: - One-year complimentary membership in the Society of American Archivists - Complimentary registration to the SAA Annual Meeting for the year in which the scholarship is received --- ## Eligibility Applicants must meet **all** of the following criteria: - Be a citizen or permanent resident of the United States or Canada - Be of American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian, Black/African American, Hispanic/Latinx, Middle Eastern/North African, or Native Hawaiian/Other Pacific Islander descent - Be currently enrolled in, or have applied to, a graduate program or a multi-course program in archival administration for the next academic year - The program must offer at least three courses in archival science or be listed in the current [SAA Directory of Archival Education](https://www2.archivists.org/dae) - If not listed, applicant must provide proof of the three-course standard via course catalog descriptions - Have completed no more than half of the credit requirements toward the graduate degree at the time of award (i.e., June 1) - Be enrolled and begin school no later than September 1 or the fall semester/quarter immediately following the award - Full-time or part-time students are eligible Additional requirements: - Must submit a 500-word report to the SAA Council upon completion of the second semester - If the award exceeds tuition for one semester, the balance may be carried over to the next semester - If tuition is paid in full by another scholarship or award, the recipient must decline the Mosaic Scholarship - If the recipient drops out, unused funds must be returned to SAA --- ## Application Process Applicants must submit the following materials: - Cover letter stating interest in the scholarship and how eligibility requirements are met - Official transcripts from the most recent academic program (allow time for processing) - Essay (max. 500 words) outlining interest in the archives profession and plans to advance diversity within it - Two letters of recommendation (from teachers/professors and/or professional archivists; recommenders must upload letters by the deadline) Apply online through the [Society of American Archivists’ application portal](https://app.smarterselect.com/programs/45830-Society-Of-American-Archivists). --- ## Additional Information - Up to two scholarships may be awarded per year, contingent on available funding. - Each recipient receives a complimentary SAA membership and registration to the annual meeting. - Applications are reviewed by the SAA Travel Awards and Student Scholarships Subcommittee. --- ## External Links - [Program page and full eligibility details](https://www2.archivists.org/governance/handbook/section12-mosaic) - [Application portal](https://app.smarterselect.com/programs/45830-Society-Of-American-Archivists) - [SAA Directory of Archival Education](https://www2.archivists.org/dae) - [Society of American Archivists Home](https://www2.archivists.org) --- ## Contact Information | Contact Method | Details | |---|---| | Phone | (312) 606-0722 | | Online Contact Form | [SAA Contact Page](https://www2.archivists.org/contact) | ---
