The Mott Foundation’s Exploratory and Special Projects Grants support unusual or unique opportunities to address significant national and international problems. These grants complement the Foundation’s four program teams: Civil Society, Environment, Flint Area and Youth Engagement. The Foundation supports nonprofit organizations working to strengthen its hometown of Flint and communities around the world.
Mott’s funding philosophy emphasizes sustained support for issues it cares about and organizations with a record of success. It funds grantees’ core activities rather than requiring them to reshape projects around shifting priorities. This approach aims to give organizations stability to focus on important work and pursue innovation, while recognizing grantees’ expertise in guiding their own work.
