Description
The Mount Rest Fund, administered by East Tennessee Foundation, supports the welfare of women, children, and youth in Knox County. Projects must address at least one of three focus areas: early childhood education, drivers of health, or prevention and mitigation of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs). The fund continues a family legacy of caring for the county’s women and young people.
That legacy began with Mount Rest Home, established in Knoxville in 1894 by women who used their own resources to provide a residence for elderly women with little money or family support. After the home closed, daughters and granddaughters of its original board members continued this charitable work, establishing the Mount Rest Foundation in 1994 and the fund at East Tennessee Foundation in 2004.
