Summary: Artists Make Technology supports performing artists with grants, technical support, and collaboration opportunities to prototype work and shape technological innovation.
Artists Make Technology (AMT) is a collaborative initiative anchored by Mozilla Foundation and the Doris Duke Foundation. It supports experimentation at the intersection of performance, art, and technology, including projects that are too technical for arts funders and too experimental for investors. Through grants, hands-on technical support, convenings, and pathways into technology products, programs, and policies, AMT helps artists prototype new works and ideas.
The initiative aims to put performing artists in the driver’s seat of technological change, widening who builds technology and whom it serves. It addresses barriers including limited direct funding, separation between the arts and technology sectors, economic and geographic barriers to access, and weak policy pathways. Its goal is to enable artists to shape the tools, policies, and cultural frameworks of the digital era.
